JPHL and BCHL to host Jaxon Joseph Memorial Tournament at All-Star Weekend

The Junior Prospects Hockey League (JPHL), in partnership with the BCHL, has introduced the inaugural Jaxon Joseph Memorial Tournament, to be played Jan. 15 to 18 in Spruce Grove, Alta., as part of the BCHL’s 2026 All-Star Weekend.

This tournament is in honour of Jaxon Joseph, who passed away in 2018 as part of the Humboldt Broncos tragedy. Joseph had previously played for the BCHL’s Surrey Eagles and his father Chris, a former NHL player, is currently head coach of the JPHL’s Titans Hockey Union 14U AAA team.

“This is much more than just a tournament,” said JPHL Commissioner Richard Nault. “It is an opportunity to honour Jaxon’s legacy, a young and inspiring hockey player whose passion, character and love for the game continues to resonate throughout our hockey community.”

The tournament will feature 13 of the top 18U AAA JPHL teams with games being played at four different venues in the area, including Thompson Family Arena where the BCHL events take place.

“We are excited to co-host this event with the JPHL and to provide an opportunity to continue honouring Jaxon’s legacy,” said BCHL Commissioner Steven Cocker. “Our alliance with the JPHL has proven to be a great benefit for both of our leagues and this is just the latest example. We look forward to hosting these teams at what is sure to be an entertaining weekend of hockey.”

Further details about the tournament schedule will be provided at a later date.
